Getting Started in Adobe Character Animator

Adobe Character, Animator lets you animate any Photoshop or Illustrator file, using your face and voice with your computer s webcam and microphone, making performance, capture, animation, fun and accessible. In this tutorial, we ll walk through the steps of getting a basic head set up When you first open up Character.

Animator, you ll see the Home screen.

You can always reach this screen by clicking the home icon in the header bar at the top.

Let s start with the simple face: template Chad.

Chad has Photoshop and Illustrator versions available, but today we ll use the Photoshop version by either clicking the picture or the top text link This imports this face into a Character, Animator project.

In your Project panel, you ll see two items listed, a puppet and a scene Think of puppets as your actors and scenes as their stage.

If you double click, a puppet you ll switch to Rig mode.

This is where you can prepare your puppet for animation.

Using tags, behaviors triggers and other animation tools, If you double click the scene, you ll enter Record mode and see a live version of your puppet reacting to your face and voice in the upper right corner.

The webcam and microphone icons should be blue, meaning they re active. Your webcam video should show up automatically, but if it doesn t try clicking the menu icon in the panel header and select the appropriate camera there.

When you talk, you should see a green audio meter show up If that doesn t work by default, just go to Character, Animator Preferences on Mac or Edit Preferences on Windows and select a working microphone input To calibrate the webcam.

To your face, make sure you re close to the camera and in a well lit area, relax your expression, look at the character in the scene panel and click the Set Rest Pose button.

This sets your current face position as the default starting point, and it s a good practice to do this.

Every time before performing Now, try moving your head left and right Look around with your eyes.

Blink Raise and lower your eyebrows Say something Your natural movements and speech translate into a real time: animated character.

Let s start customizing this character a little bit by going over to Photoshop, Select your puppet in the Project panel and click, the Photoshop icon.

That appears at the bottom.

This will open up the artwork in Photoshop.

Take a look at the layers panel. The structure and naming in the Photoshop file is important.

You always want a top level group with a symbol and your character.

S name and a group named Head inside it.

If you do this any artwork inside this Head group will move with your own head movements inside Character.

Animator.

We ll cover the facial features in other sections, but for now let s give this puppet a different background.

Select the last layer in the Layers panel called face background.

Then click the New Layer button below to add a new blank layer above this one Find the shape tool in your left toolbar.

Usually this is a rectangle by default and click and hold on it to reveal more choices, Select the Ellipse tool and make sure the type in the upper toolbar is set to Shape Click.

The fill swatch and feel free to pick any color as the background skin. Then start in the upper left corner of your canvas and click and drag to make a new oval background layer.

You can use the move tool to adjust its position When you re done, select and delete the old face background layer below Go to File, Save to save your edits.

When you return to Character Animator your edits will automatically sync up and appear.

This is the basic foundation for building custom characters.

You could add, as many layers as you want with any kind of artwork inside your Head group, and it will show up in Character, Animator Feel free to experiment with your own style and have fun Eyes and eyebrows in Adobe Character.

Animator give your character a wide variety of expressive possibilities.

When you look around blink or move your eyebrows, your animated character does the same.

We ll continue with the Photoshop template Chad from Character, Animator s home screen In Photoshop at the top of the head group.

We see two layers Left Eyebrow and Right Eyebrow.

There are a few things to note. First, when we talk about left and right here, we re talking about the character s left and right, not the left and right sides of the screen.

Second, when you add a in front of a layer, s name that s a special code to Character Animator, to make that layer what we call independent, meaning it can move on its own without affecting other layers.

If you took the off of the eyebrow layers saved and returned to Character Animator, you would notice how the eyebrows would be pulling and warping other layers as they move.

If the layer names start with, instead, they ll move on their own, A plus in Photoshop or Illustrator, gets translated into this crown icon in Rig mode in Character, Animator, allowing you to easily toggle and experiment with making parts independent, Because the layers were precisely named Left.

Eyebrow and Right Eyebrow when the artwork was imported, those layers got automatically tagged as eyebrows.

You can check this in Rig mode by selecting the layer and looking at the Tags section in the right properties panel, You can toggle between a visual or text based tags system.

So if I had just named this layer, eyebrow or brow or Layer, 472 Final final for real this time, I can easily tag it here.

The character is controlled by a set of rules called behaviors.

When you import a character, you get a standard behavior set automatically, which you can see in Record mode in the properties panel on the right.

The eyebrow controls are in the Face behavior, so twirling. That open reveals several options to customize the eyebrows, Eyebrow strength exaggerates or minimizes the amount of vertical eyebrow movement as you move your own eyebrows in the webcam high numbers, move up and down a lot while 0 means no vertical movement at all, Raised and lowered eyebrow Tilt determines how much and in which directions the eyebrows will pivot in their highest and lowest positions.

You can experiment with these parameters to customize the level of expressiveness that you want.

Let s take a closer look at the eyes back in Photoshop.

Each eye has its own group Left Eye and Right Eye, each with three layers inside an eyeball pupil and blink layer.

The relationship is pretty simple: the pupil stays inside the shape of the eyeball and because we want it to move around without pulling on other layers.

We add a to make it independent.

The blink layer only shows up when you blink and doing so will hide the other layers in its group, the eyeball and pupil.

If you return to your scene in Record mode in Character Animator, you can see that eyes are controlled by the Eye Gaze behavior, which has several options.

A red dot means that something is armed for recording.

So by default we can see that eye gaze is looking for camera input following your own eyes in the webcam. If we disarm Camera input, we have two other options we could arm Mouse Touch.

Input lets us control the pupils by dragging a mouse or fingers on a touch enabled screen Keyboard input lets us control the pupils with the keyboard, arrow keys.

Any of these methods work arm the one that gets the results you re.

Looking for Towards the bottom Snap eye gaze is checked by default, meaning the eyes will dart around to one of 9 different common positions, depending on where you re looking in the webcam, but unchecking.

This will make the pupils more free moving.

So these eyebrows and eyes are a basic example, but you could customize them into whatever size, shape and color.

You want in your own unique style Once you save any edits, will automatically show up in Character, Animator For more advanced users.

There s also the option of tracking your upper and lower eyelids or adding clipping masks to prevent the pupils from floating off of the eyeballs.

The eyes are one of the most expressive parts of a character, so it s worth spending some time tweaking the parameters until you get the effect that best fits your character When a puppet in Adobe Character, Animator hears a voice, it analyzes the sound in realtime and Picks a mouth shape that fits So as you talk, the mouth is constantly switching to match.

Whatever syllable is heard, resulting in automatic instant lip sync Continuing with the Photoshop template Chad from Character, Animator s home screen inside Photoshop, you can twirl open the Mouth group to see all the different potential mouth shapes. There are 14 total here.

So let s break them down 3 of these Neutral Smile and Surprised, are silent, mouths and only show up when nothing is being said.

In these cases, the shape of your mouth in the webcam will control.

What shows up here Neutral is the default state and the one that any puppet with a mouth should have Smile and surprised are additional optional, silent mouth shapes that will get triggered if you smile or open your mouth in surprise.

The other 11 are audio based mouths called visemes and they ll show up when something is said.

These are Aa D, Ee, F, L M, Oh R, S, Uh and W Oo.

By naming these mouth shapes exactly this way and putting them in a Mouth group Character.

Animator will know what to do with them once they re imported.

Armed with this knowledge, you can create your own custom mouth sets either by tweaking a template mouth like the one provided in Chad or creating your own from scratch.

Making a responsive mouth set takes some time and experimentation, so Chad s mouth set is a great starting point, feel free to use it exactly as is or just a guide for your own custom creations In Character. Animator, if you double click the Chad Photoshop scene.

In the Project Panel on the left, it will automatically open up in Record Mode.

If the microphone icon is on and the Lip Sync behavior is armed, then you re ready to record audio.

For now you could disarm all the other behaviors by clicking the red dots.

Next to them A shortcut to disarm everything at once is holding down command on Mac or control on Windows while clicking an arming dot.

You can do this and then arm Lip Sync to ensure it s the only behavior looking for input, If you click the red record button in the scene panel and start talking Character, Animator will record data for the armed lip.

Sync behavior Clicking the record button again to stop, will create two things in the timeline: a waveform of your audio and a lip sync take with all of the individual visemes below.

By dragging the left and right edges of any viseme.

You can trim or expand how long it appears You can also right click any viseme to swap it out with any other one, with some accompanying suggestions to help guide.

You for sounds that share the same viseme Tapping the first letter of a viseme on your keyboard. Will also do a switch.

You can remove a viseme by right, clicking and choosing Silence and right clicking on an empty area of the viseme track.

Will allow you to create a new viseme Audio doesn t need to be recorded, live if you re working with voice actors or recording in another program, you can go to File Import and bring in external audio files for your voices.

You can then drag them into your scene.

Select the puppet.

You want to apply the lip sync to and go to Timeline.

Compute Lip Sync Take From Scene Audio.

This will analyze the audio file and create the lip sync track from its contents.

Accurate.

Looking lip sync is a critical part of a believable animated performance, so it s worth spending the time to make your mouth look as great as possible. When setting up a body in Adobe Character, Animator, you can add rigging information to determine how a character moves and which parts you can control In the Home screen.

Let s take a look at a simple human character.

By clicking the example puppet named Chloe and then click the Photoshop icon to open the original artwork, Because this version of Chloe already has body rigging associated with it.

We can start from scratch by making a new copy of her In Photoshop double click.

The name of the top Chloe group and rename it to Zoey, Then we can go to File, Save As and save her as a new file named Zoey Back to Character.

Animator, you can click File Import, find the Zoey photoshop file and import her Double clicking.

The Zoey puppet will open her up in Rig mode.

We ll come back here in a minute, but for now let s add her into a new scene by clicking the clapboard icon in the bottom left corner of the Project Panel.

This adds the puppet to a new scene.

If you select the scene in the project panel by clicking it once you ll, see the scene properties on the right. Here you can customize the scene s parameters like the width, height duration and framerate In the default 1920 x, 1080 scene.

Zoey is a little too big To resize and reposition.

Her select the Zoey track in the timeline below and under the Transform properties on the right click and drag over the Scale Position X or Position Y parameters to make her fit in the scene.

Returning back to Rig mode, we can see that the top level Zoey group has two groups inside a Head group and a Body group Setting up a file like this ensures.

The body will always move along with the head.

As expected.

Note that neither of these groups are independent if we made the Head independent by adding a in front of it in Photoshop or toggling on the crown icon in Rig mode in Character Animator, it would move on its own and look disconnected from the body.

So it s best to keep both non independent.

But if we look at Zoey s scene, her feet are swaying back and forth with her head and not connected to the ground like we probably want.

We can fix this by returning to Rig mode and adding what we call handles or invisible data points that determine how the artwork behaves To add a handle that will pin the feet to the ground, make sure the Body group is selected. Click the handle circle in the lower toolbar click, a foot to place a new handle there and tag it as Fixed via the right hand.

Properties panel Because Fixed handles are commonly used there.

S also a shortcut, the pushpin icon, Clicking on the artwork with this known.

As the Pin tool will quickly create fixed handles, so you can add several to keep her grounded Returning to the scene will confirm that her feet are stationary.

As expected Back to Rig mode.

We can see that Zoey has several items inside her Body group, a right arm group, a left arm group, a torso group and pants layer.

The arm groups are independent, marked with crown icons, because we want them to move on their own without necessarily pulling the rest of the body By default.

The independent group s origin shows up right in the middle of the artwork and a dotted green line shows what s controlling it.

In this case the origin of the group – it s inside the Body group, But we want our arm to pivot from the shoulders.

Not the belly button, so we can use the select tool from the bottom toolbar and drag the origin until it hits the shoulder As soon as the origin overlaps with other artwork. It can connect to the connecting artwork turns green and the origin gets a green circle around it.

Now that her Right Arm is properly connected, we can add another handle to.

Let us move this arm with our mouse or fingers on a touch enabled device With the right arm.

Group still selected, select the Dragger tool in the bottom toolbar and click on the hand to add a draggable handle.

Now, when we return to our scene, if we click and drag, we can move and control the arm group By default.

It s bending like a spaghetti noodle and we may want to add some more structure to it Back in Rig mode still with the right arm.

Group selected, you can click the Stick tool and drag over top, where the forearm and bicep would be to draw some simple scaffolding, leaving a little room in the middle for the elbow Returning to the scene.

Now the arm bends more like we might expect from a human arm.

You can do the same with the left arm.

Group Drag the origin to the shoulder, Add a draggable handle to the hand And finally draw two sticks for the forearm and bicep, And with that you ve now got the foundation of a basic animated character. Other characters might have a lot more bells and whistles, but most of them follow this general Head and Body grouping structure In the Home screen.

You ll find several other example templates to learn from and clicking the See More link.

Above takes you to a page where you can download even more So good luck, creating your own animated characters and stories and have fun .

Because of all of this Picasso is a game changer for enterprises, creators and visual artists alike. It’s, no surprise that computer and human generated art both took the world by storm last year with companies and capitalists investing millions, not just in generative AI, but in classic physical art too, which saw record setting auction totals plastered across headlines throughout 2022. This rush of attention is extra noteworthy because other investments just experienced their worst year since the 2008 financial crisis. At the same time, however, art prices rose an average of 29 last year, as shown on the Knight Frank wealth report. This is an extraordinary result for the companies that were already quietly at work in the art market for years, like one that’s using modern technological innovation to bring the potential of contemporary art’s financial power to everyday investors. Masterworks’team of experts have created a one of a kind database of prices of art from auctions of the last 50 years, which allows them to find art that they believe will appreciate in value And they’re already delivering solid returns to their investors. Handing back 25 8 million in total net returns just last year. The Masterworks process starts off with buying an expensive art piece, then breaking it into shares and finally listing it on the platform, But this isn’t generative, AI art or NFTs. Instead, this is authentic. Art from legendary artists like Picasso and Banksy, You can even read all the offering circulars at the SEC database linked in the description. So far, each of Masterworks,’12 exits have delivered positive returns to their investors with their last two returning 10 and 35 net. Because more and more people are looking to hedge against their traditional portfolio and increase their upside Masterworks has been seeing unprecedented demand. So click the link below Much like the world of fine art. The field of AI driven 3D scene modeling is also experiencing a new wave of innovation, as demonstrated by the recent technological leap from Stanford Researchers, which introduces a new technique that utilizes a diffusion model approach called locally conditioned diffusion for compositional text to image production. The method allows for the creation of cohesive 3D sets with control over the size and placement of individual objects through the use of text prompts and 3D bounding boxes as input By incorporating conditional diffusion stages selectively based on input, segmentation, masks and matching text prompts their approach Produces outputs that adhere to user specified composition? Moreover, this technique can be applied to a text to 3D generating pipeline based on score distillation sampling to create compositional text to 3D scenes. In recent years. The accessibility of 3D scene modeling has improved with the development of 3D generative models. However, traditional methods like 3D aware generative adversarial networks have limitations as they are specialized to a single item, category which restricts the variety of outcomes and makes scene level text to 3D conversion. Difficult, On the other hand, text to 3D generation utilizing diffusion models, provides more flexibility to create 3D objects from a wide range of categories. Current research, using global conditioning through a single word prompt and 2D image diffusion priers, has produced impressive object: centric generations,

Prompt Engineering: Die besten Ergebnisse aus ChatGPT, Midjourney und Co bekommen | Tutorial #01

ChatGPT Dude, these are the famous words from South Park Everyone knows this tool now, even my mother used it And I got a lot of comments from you guys saying that not everyone gets the same results But we're not just talking about ChatGPTDude, we're also talking about Bing search, MidJourney, graphics creation, everything that's based on large language models GPT-4 or GPT-3 or BARD or LAMA, all these tools that we can use And of course there are more of them All these tools process natural language and try to give us a solution, an answer that satisfies us Whether it's in the form of a picture or a search engine Or a search engine that can also create pictures Or whether it's just research or text There will be more and more things and I think it's time we learn how to deal with it Fun fact at this point There is a website, no it's not an ad, there is a website for prompt engineers That means people who build you a command to get the best result from ChatGPTD, MidJourney, DOLL-E, StableDiffusion or all the other tools There are some guides on Fiverr on how to become a prompt engineer and how to find one And I thought to myself, I don't think anyone has spent as much time with these tools as I have Because I use them to fact check my videos, well not to check them in fact But to check if my storytelling is correct, if my, well for the longer videos, not for the tutorials This is a tutorial series if you haven't noticed, you can't see my face But for the longer videos I use it to ask small questions and get quick answers As a kind of search engine replacement I use it to program, I use it to generate images that are thumbnails for my videos Or that are built into the videos for editing I use it for research, I actually use it for a lot of things And that's why I thought I can share it with you so you can get good results yourself Today we want to deal with the basics first Because as I said, this is going to be a series and I'm still learning more and more And these models are changing of course I had the pleasure to deal with the technology behind it With AI, with neural networks, with the transformer models, with all these great technical things But this series is actually for everyone I won't do it just for computer scientists, even if there are some topics That are especially useful for computer scientists, like code generation We don't want to limit it to that I think it's such an important topic that a lot of people could start with it You can write the actual start in the comments, it's at 3 minutes 20 A large language model is exactly what your keyboard is It completes your sentences So if I write, the sky is, and I'm actually changing to default chat gpt 3.5 That's the old version, because here I'm limited to 25 entries I don't know how much I can or want to record today The sky is, blue, period, what is that? That's a sentence completion In the end, I could also write something like, and now it's important here This button, I don't know if you've used it before, is for editing a prompt in chat gpt With that you can simply change an existing command and modify it again That's super helpful, because we'll also deal with things like additive prompts That means prompts that refine and improve previous prompts And sometimes even let information from the AI flow in here So, the sky is blue, period, okay The sky is blue, but Everyone knows that the sky isn't always blue The color of the sky can vary depending on weather conditions and time of day, blah blah blah You see what I mean My sentence is being completed And that means you can also give commands to this thing So really, that's what your old keyboard did, but in a much better way That's legit, that's how it works And if I want to make it a lot better I can simply ask questions Is the sky blue? And now it's being completed for auto Yes, the sky is blue, blah blah blah What happens here in the end You have to think about what this model was trained on It was trained on a lot of language, it was trained on dialogues It wasn't trained on mathematical models for the smartasses Like the people from Schlaumeier who think they should ask if 5 plus 5 is 10 or something It wasn't trained on numbers, it's not a mathematical model, use something else It's a large language model You can see my hand gestures, I don't have a camera Anyways, the sky is blue, but You get what I mean It won't complete what we're writing here You can imagine it like this I found this very helpful When we ask a question We can always use it as a form of an exam So ask a question Or ask a question that you could answer in an exam Whatever exam it might be But give all the necessary information So if you want to do this If you say, explain quantum physics, no, quantum computing in one simple sentence Then you get exactly this It's in a simple sentence That gives you a lot of information So the information you see here is extremely relevant You have to pay attention to how you formulate it If I change one word in a single sentence Then it can change paradigms Make complex calculations faster than with classical computers So this is something that not everyone would understand So it depends on how I ask this question And here's a first little life hack That I find very useful Explain quantum physics Task Explain quantum computing Goal group Computer scientist Because I'm a computer scientist, you can easily adjust this for yourself Complexity Simple No knowledge of physics And now we get the whole thing exactly as I would like it to be You see that it works with terms that I, of course, know as a computer scientist So in contrast to classical computers Here the large language model simply assumes that I know the things that are based on bits, i.e.

0 and 1 Quantum computers use so-called quantum bits So qubits And then I get an explanation of what these quantum bits are So I get exactly what is relevant to me So your output is only as good as what you write And I actually recommend you to try out this structure Task, goal group, double point and complexity Maybe as a first little start As I said, I'm going to go a little more into these basics, prompting things But we also want to look at a few frameworks that have been developed in the meantime Yes, there are actually frameworks like interacting with AI I know it sounds ridiculous at first But you just get better results And that's the goal of this series I just want to make it possible for you to get a little better with this You are welcome to tell me what you expect from this series And yes, we'll hear from you next time See you, bye

AI Video Maker, Synthesia Review

In this video we’re going to look at Synthesia, which is an incredible AI video creation tool, that’s really changing the game for online presentations Without further ado, let’s dive into today’s video So guys, jumping over to Synthesia. This is a phenomenal tool. It’S linked down below in the description. So if you want to check it out after this video, I really recommend you do because it’s one of the coolest things I’ve seen recently. You can create videos from plain text in just minutes.

Maybe you’ve already seen some of these videos being used on YouTube and wondered where they came from Well now you can find out Coming over to the Synthesia website. You have the opportunity to create a free AI, but luckily we already have an account so we’re going to use it to make one of these videos in a very quick time So guys, I’m super excited about making Nai with this tool. As you can see, these are all the different people that I can use as my presenter. What’S really great about this, is we can see that there are all sorts of different people here so depending on which place in the world you’re presenting or just who? You want for the particular topic that you’re going to talk about?

There’S someone who’s perfect for you And if you can’t find someone that you think is suitable or required, then you can request an avatar as well, which is something I really like Coming through. You can see. There are lots of different characters here who we can use to create our videos. All of them are obviously very lifelike very human-like, So we’re going to start with Christian and Christian and Ophelia are both beta versions because they use gestures. That means, instead of just writing a text that you want to use.

You can add gestures to that as well, which is absolutely incredible. For example, when you click on the gestures, you can see the different things we can use, such as nodding your head. Yes shaking your head, no raising your eyebrows and more You get the picture. You can also select different languages and accents, Obviously I’m English. So I’m going to choose English Great Britain natural.

However, there are nearly 70 languages available, so pretty much most of the world is catered for in terms of what you’re going to be wanting these tools. For So, we’ve selected our character because we want to use the gestures part. What you can see below is where we have to write in what we want We’re just going to start with “ Hi everyone Welcome back to our YouTube channel. In today’s video we are going to talk about Synthesia .”.

You can create any text you want and he will then speak it out. Obviously he won’t do it straight away. By clicking on this button, we can hear what the voice will sound like “ Hi. Everyone Welcome back to our YouTube channel. In today’s video we are going to talk about Synthesia .

‘. This is the voice that he’s going to have. We can’t see his face moving yet because we’ll have to do a few more steps before we get that. But don’t worry We’re also going to put in a gesture at the end, and we want to confirm which one we’re going to do. I’M just going to select eyebrows up We’re looking for an eyebrow raise at the end.

There are other things we could do, such as adding diction, which will create words that I’ve said, and we can add a variable, such as some code or something like that. I can also select whether I want him on the left center or right. You can see he’s appearing on the right, but we’re going to click and have him in the center. For now Now, on the right-hand side, we can see a few other things. We’Ve got templates here, so we could use a slide.

Rode NT1 and AI-1 Complete Studio Kit Review

The Complete Studio Kit from Rode offers,
as the same suggests, a complete package for audio recording.
The kit includes the company’s AI-1 audio interface as well as their NT1 condenser microphone,
it also includes accessories such as the SMR shock mount, pop-shield, dust cover and Rode-branded
XLR cable to get you up and running. I purchased this kit as a replacement to my
Blue Spark Digital, which suddenly stopped working. I decided upon the Rode kit as it
was XLR, not USB, and had a generous 10-year warranty for the microphone.
The NT1 features a simplistic design, with a sleek matte black finish that looks discrete
and tidy.

The microphone is around 19cm tall and 5cm in diameter, so it takes up a relatively
small footprint. There is not too much to the design, with
some Rode branding on the front and back, a gold disc on the front side indicates which
side of the microphone to talk in to so that sound is picked up well. The ends of the microphone
are home to the key parts of the microphone, at one end is the microphone capsule and the
other the XLR jack to connect the microphone to your audio interface as well as a screw
thread to attach the microphone to a mount. Overall, I really like the design of the microphone.
The build quality feels excellent and it is a full metal construction which ensures that
it will be long lasting and durable if transported around.
The NT1 is a condenser microphone, which makes it fantastic for recording vocals or, in my
case, voiceovers and features a cardioid polar pattern, which means it picks up audio from
in-front of the microphone. The microphone has a 20Hz-20kHz frequency range and 4dB of
self-noise, which is great for a microphone in this price range.

It is powered by 24-
or 48-volt phantom power, which the AI-1 audio interface takes care of.
I am extremely impressed and pleased with the quality of the audio that the NT1 manages
to capture, especially considering that my room has had little to no acoustic treatment
until a month or so ago. The audio is clear and captures my voice well, with excellent
clarity throughout the frequency spectrum, the microphone manages to capture deep and
high frequencies equally as well, with warm bass and clear top-end frequencies.
The quality that Rode has packed in for the price is certainly worth it, I personally
have no complaints with the capture quality that the microphone offers for voice work.
As I previously mentioned, the kit also bundles a collection of useful accessories to ensure
that you can use the microphone to the best of its ability.

The kit includes a shock mount,
pop filter and dust cover for the NT1. The shock mount and pop filter is Rode’s
SMR product, which suspends the microphone to reduce and vibrations from the surface
your microphone is resting on from reaching the microphone capsule, ensuring that there
is no bass rumble detected by the microphone due to changes within the recording environment.
The metal pop filter features two layers and works well at reducing the impact of plosives
being picked up by the microphone.

Unfortunately, the pop filter is specifically made for this
shock mount, so it is not possible to use it with a different setup, if desired.
When not using the microphone, the NT1 has a dust cover to protect it. The cover can
also double up as a carrying case if you’ve got to move the microphone around but it is
very thin so if you’re going to be moving around with the microphone a lot, I would
recommend getting something with some padding. Despite all these accessories, there is no
microphone stand included – you’ll need to provide that yourself. I’ve mounted my
NT1 on a Rode PSA1 boom arm which I can bring to my mouth when I wish to use the microphone,
which I’ve found to work well for a number of years.
The AI-1 is Rode’s offering for an audio interface to connect the microphone to your
computer. It has an extremely compact design, coming in at around 4cm tall, 12cm wide and
9cm deep, making it portable as easy to take on the go – but this smaller form factor
does sacrifice some features in comparison to the competition.

The audio interface, like
the NT1 microphone, has a metal outer-casing which ensures that it is durable and long-lasting.
On the front is an XLR/¼ jack combo input, so you can connect a microphone or a guitar,
for example, but unfortunately this is the only input found on the audio interface. If
you want to record guitar and vocals at the same time, the Focusrite Scarlett Solo may
be a better choice, but for my use-case the single input works fine.
There is also a ¼ jack headphone output for headphones on the front as well as balanced
speaker outputs on the back of the device. I use this audio interface with my Mackie
CR3 speakers, and it does a good job and general audio output. When you plug in a pair of headphones,
the output will automatically be switched over.
The audio interface supports phantom power, which can be turned on by pressing the gain
dial, as well as support for direct real-time monitoring of the microphone by pressing the
output gain dial.

A great aspect of this audio interface is
that it is bus powered by USB, so it does not require an additional power source. A
USB Type-C port can be found on the back to power the device and no specialised drivers
need to be installed to get going. For my use, the Complete Studio Kit has provided
everything I need when it comes to recording a high-quality voiceover, I cannot really
fault the experience I have had – it has been exceptional. If you are looking for a
setup to record vocals or instruments, I would highly recommend the kit and I really like
how there is a 10-year warranty on the microphone. That’s been it for this video, if you liked
it and found it helpful please consider subscribing.

I will leave a link in the description if
you want to pick up the Complete Studio Kit. Thanks for watching and I will see you in
the next one..

My Channel Was Deleted Last Night

this is me racing out of bed for our front row seat to my life's work Vanishing before my eyes Linus Tech tips deleted Tech linked toasted techwiki gone the good news is that if you're watching this we're back online bad news is that this kind of attack has become so commonplace on YouTube that when we sat down to prepare this video it took us less than 10 seconds to find a huge channel that was dealing with exactly the same thing in that moment let's talk then about the motive for these attacks the process changes that we and YouTube need to make and how we can all work together as a community to educate and protect each other from Bad actors oh and to tell you about our sponsor dbrand oh God not dbrand today really oh actually no they've got something good stay tuned foreign started a little after three in the morning when the Linus Tech tips account was renamed to Tesla and started streaming a podcast style recording of self-proclaimed techno King Elon Musk discussing cryptocurrency this in and of itself is not a scam but the streams linked to a scam website that claimed that for every one Bitcoin you sent they would return double complete with fake transaction records showing other users definitely getting huge payouts over the next couple of hours then we sparred back and forth first I privated the streams revoked the channel stream key and attempted to reset the account credentials only to realize as I was investigating the source of the breach that I had been completely outmaneuvered they were back in and the streams were live again have okay so I logged back in Nuke the stream again and I go to and they're up again and now videos are being Mass deleted from the channel over the next couple of hours playing login whack-a-mole the Linus Tech tips Tech linked and Tech quickie accounts were each used to host these Elon Musk crypto streams until they were ultimately nuked by YouTube altogether for violating YouTube's terms of service and I could almost feel your thoughts through the screen right now Linus truly after all these lectures about two-factor authentication don't you even protect your own accounts course I do but while strong passwords and multi-factor authentication are very powerful security measures that you should use they're not impenetrable first up let's talk to fa not all factors or additional authentication elements are equally secure the most common second Factor SMS can be compromised by simple social engineering targeted at your phone carrier check out this video that we posted the last time our account was hijacked for more information about that another common factor notification based multi-factor is susceptible to fatigue attacks where a perpetrator will constantly try to log in hoping that you'll assume oh it's probably someone from work or even just click on the notification by accident very problematic and I'm looking at you Google since you can't disable this Factor on Google accounts even time-based two-factor like Google Authenticator or authy can be compromised say if you were to accidentally set it up or access it from an infected device in spite of all of these issues with two Factor though it held the line last night our attacker not only never gained access to our additional authentication factors they never even had our passwords but how can that be well as it turns out they didn't need any of that which is a big part of why it took me so long to clue in and stop the spread I was so focused on the potential damage that could be done by someone who had commandeered my SMS messages or gained access to my Google Authenticator somehow that I expended valuable time battening down the wrong hatches if I had watched Theo Joe's recent video on the subject or at least skimmed the comments I could have probably stopped the bleeding in a matter of minutes shout out Theo Joe but I didn't so I got to be educated the hard way about a breed of attacks that bypass trivial things like passwords and 2fa entirely by targeting what's known as a session token now many of you will know this already and if you do give yourself a cookie but after you log into a website and your credentials have been validated that site will provide your web browser with a session token this allows your browser and by extension you to stay logged in when you restart your browser and go to access that site again this isn't a bad thing it's a good thing because realistically nobody wants to type in a password every time they want to post instant regret on the internet but hold on a second that cookie is stored locally on your device how would someone else get it well that's where we made a mistake someone on our team and I'm not saying it was Colton downloaded what appeared to be a sponsorship offer from a potential partner it was an innocent enough mistake for the most part the email came from a legitimate looking source and it didn't raise any immediate red flags like being full of grammatical errors so they extracted the contents launched what appeared to be a PDF containing the terms of the deal then presumably when it didn't work went about the rest of their day what happened in the background took place over the course of just 30 seconds the malware accessed all user data from both of their installed browsers Chrome and Edge including everything from locally saved passwords to cookies to browser preferences giving them effectively an exact copy of those browsers on the target machine that they could export including that's right session tokens for every logged in website now no one should unzip an email attachment file extensions should always be double checked when you are executing anything and any file that doesn't do what you expect should raise immediate red flags but then on the flip side I can hardly blame a sales rep or a video editor or someone in accounting for not being up on the latest in cyber crime and I also believe that in a healthy organization it actually rolls up the hill rather than down so there's not going to be any disciplinary actions because the simple truth is that if we had more rigorous training for our newcomers and better processes for following up notifications from our sitewide anti-malware this could have been easily avoided as for why it took so long for us to lock down the account once we knew what was going on that's another training issue but this time it was my training we use a system for our YouTube channels called content manager which theoretically improves security by allowing us to dual out specific Channel access roles to our various team members rather than just sharing the main account credentials with everyone who needs to access it this made the process of determining the attack Vector way more complicated you can think of it kind of like replacing your one giant vault door with 20 smaller doors any one of which realistically still gets you into the vault now in a perfect world these smaller doors should have been restricted with less access than we configured but hindsight is 20 20.

Or at least I hope it is the bottom line is that our Disaster Response processes need to improve because I realized at three whatever in the morning shout out Steve from Gamers Nexus for the wake-up call by the way but I actually didn't know how to reset the passwords and the access control across all of these channels in channel manager and that is not the sort of thing that you want to be troubleshooting but naked in the wee hours of the morning in the middle of a crisis In fairness to me the way that Google handles the intermingling of all their services is not the most intuitive and both Yvonne and I experienced numerous glitches and timeouts that prevented us from effectively using these tools even once we did figure out how to use them which leads us nicely then into the next part of our discussion I've owned what I did wrong and now it's time to talk about Google to their credit I heard back that someone was aware and working on it at the highest levels within about half an hour of reaching out to my YouTube rep and they have seemingly improved their internal tools for managing this sort of thing a lot since the last time around they've got forms you can fill out and the partner reps that we've worked with seem to genuinely care shout out MC I'm so sorry this spoiled your spa day however this entire process has been pretty opaque other than we're aware and working on it the internal team doesn't seem to even be allowed to communicate with creators directly I mean I get it security aside idiot users probably won't have anything to contribute to their investigation they figured out that the attack came from one of our non-video production teams pretty quickly and then actually banned that Google workspace account almost immediately I mean realistically idiot users could just slow them down but even a quick hey I know you're stressed uh here's what's going on and here's how we can keep this from spreading would almost certainly have calmed my nerves and saved all of us some work by keeping techlinked and Tech quickie in our hands and another big problem is that this approach you know one-on-one only benefits larger channels like ours I've seen quite a few people rightly express some resentment that we were able to get this resolved so quickly when their favorite Niche Creator X or Y struggled with it for an extended period of time or even never got it fully resolved so it's clear that there are some changes that need to be made and here are a few of them in no particular order we need greater Security Options for key Channel attributes I mean how can you change the name of a channel without having to re-enter your password and your two-factor what about resetting a stream key same deal in my opinion and this is just one of the ways that the impact of a session hijacking can be limited rate limiting is also widely used in API access to services like YouTube for example Google will only process a certain number of comment moderation actions per day through their API well I could see implementing something similar even if you are directly accessing the service but then rather than limited out right it could prompt for authentication to be clear I'm not saying every time you delete a video it should ask for your password but say if you were trying to delete 10 or 100 or a thousand videos at a time a little are you sure about that are you actually you would probably be in order the funny thing is that none of that stuff would even be necessary with proper security policies on session tokens bare minimum would be time based expiry you know how when you boot up an old smartphone all your accounts are usually logged out session expiry but many sites also factor in other attributes like location so if you were to suddenly try to access a site or service from Antarctica you should be prompted to log in again these measures are very common on high-risk websites like online banking I'm not saying banks are model citizens when it comes to login security but they do usually invalidate sessions in a matter of minutes but can you remember the last time Instagram or SnapChat asked you to log in again social media platforms YouTube excuse me tend to be a lot less aggressive since they want to make using their platforms as frictionless as possible now In fairness Google does usually require re-authentication when you're changing a password or other Security Options or I don't know when a session token gets reused by a new IP address on the other side of the freaking planet but we've heard from multiple people that this isn't always the case so the big question is that with Google owning the whole chain here like start to finish really including the bloody web browser how is this crap not only still possible but so prevalent it's time for them to not just ask these questions internally but come up with real answers for them I think the only group whose response here was perfect was our community and no this is not like standing on stage you guys were amazing um prominent members of our Forum whom I've interacted with over the years reached out to my team directly upstanding citizens were paying real money out of their own Pockets to send super chats warning stream viewers that the channel was hijacked and over 5 000 of you in the last 12 hours alone subscribe to floatplane.com to show your support and to ensure that you wouldn't miss any of our uploads I have had a pretty rough day a pretty long day but you know what it's also been amazing to see how fast we can bounce back thanks to your unwavering support the incredible team we have here like everyone we got Artie over there is Colton still there no all right well whatever Andrew's there James is working on guidance for this Luke was up half the night with me and Yvonne trying to help us figure things out driving to the office um really appreciate you all uh oh our partners at YouTube um and of course dbrand something something dbrand with me a lot yes uh it's true but the thing about dbrand is as much as they love to poke fun having partners like them makes losing a full day of YouTube Revenue a lot less of a concern not a lot of companies are going to step up and sponsor a video talking about how our account got hacked that's the I mean that's the kind of subject nobody wants to get close to at all but dbrand jumped at the chance to help us out and not just help us out by sponsoring the video today making it so we don't got to worry about how to pay all these guys their overtime but help us out by setting you guys up with an unprecedented deal for the first time ever dbrand is offering a site-wide deal for LTT viewers just go to really guys shortliness.com and you will save 15 on any order using code five foot one that's one word all one word f-i-v-e-f-o-o-t-o-w-n-e we really couldn't do it without all of you thanks to you my team and yes even dbrand I'll have How to Submit Your Website to Search Engines

Post Description:

In this video, I’m going to show you how to submit your website to Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Stay tuned. [music] Hey guys, it’s Joshua Hardwick here with Ahrefs, and today, I have a website that I want to submit to all of the major search engines. That’s Google, Bing, and Yahoo. I know it’s not already indexed in any of those search engines because I did a “site” search in both Google and Bing, and they each returned no results. And because Yahoo pulls results from Bing, I also know that it’s not indexed there.

So let’s start with Google. Now, until recently, the easiest way to submit a website or a webpage to Google was via their URL submission tool. You entered the URL, hit submit, and that was it. But Google discontinued this tool in twenty-eighteen, so now the only way to submit a website is by adding a sitemap in Google Search Console. So first things first, you need to verify ownership of the website you want to submit via Search Console. I’ve already done that for this site. If you haven’t done that for yours, check out the full blog post at ahrefs.com/blog/submit-website-to-search-engines, where you’ll find a link to a tutorial showing you how to do it.

You also need to create a sitemap, which again, I’ve already done, and uploaded to the root folder on this domain. So now, all I need to do is head to the sitemaps section in Search Console, enter my sitemap URL, and hit submit. And that’s it. The website is now submitted to Google. It’s worth noting that I’m using the new version of Search Console here. If you’re still with the old one, you can find the same sitemaps section under the Crawl heading on the left-hand menu.

From thereon, the process is the same. But what if you just want to submit, or resubmit, a single webpage to Google? For that, you can use the Fetch as Google tool which is located under that same subheader. Here you just need to enter the URL of the webpage you want to submit, hit “Fetch” and then click the “Request indexing” button. You’ll then see a modal window like this. Confirm you’re not a robot, hit the “crawl this URL only” checkbox, hit “go,” and you’re done. This is a super inefficient way to submit lots of pages or an entire website to Google. If that’s what you’re trying to do, use the sitemap option instead. Now let’s move on to Bing. Unlike Google, Bing still has a public URL submission tool, which you can find at bing.com/toolbox/submit-site-url. Here you can submit any website in seconds.

Just enter the homepage URL, fill in the captcha, and hit “submit.” But still, a much better option is to submit your sitemap via Bing webmaster tools, which you can do at bing.com/webmaster/home/addsite. You’ll be asked for your homepage and sitemap URLs, along with a few other bits of information about you and your website. Once you’ve filled in the form, hit submit and you’re done. As I mentioned earlier, Yahoo pulls results from Bing so submission to Bing results in automatic submission to Yahoo. Finally, if you want to check the index status of a particular website or webpage, go to Google or Bing and type the “site” operator followed by the URL or root domain you want to check. If a result is returned, the website or webpage is indexed.

If not, there may be an issue. You can learn more about the causes of these issues, how to fix them, and why submitting your website to search engines won’t necessarily result in a consistent stream of traffic to your website in the full blog post at ahrefs.com/blog/submit-website-to-search-engines.
